Who we are
We’re normal people, just like you, who have come to the realisation that the human race cannot continue to live in the way it has been and we want to do our bit to help.
We appreciate that at times it may seem as though the actions of individuals are but a drop in the ocean, but with no drops, there would be no ocean. Some of our remarkable successes will show you that we can and do make a difference - visit the What we do page to see some of the specific projects we have completed or are in the middle of.
Educational Charity
The Unicorn Foundation Trust was founded in 1991 as an educational charity, with the aim of proving that humanity can live in a sustainable way without making compromises on the quality of life, or paying more money for the privilege.
In 2000, after a lot of hard work, we established ourselves in the hills of Cork on a 150-acre site. Our dream of establishing an educational example of living comfortably with ecological and sustainable concepts, or permaculture, had become a reality. We began to develop the site as a micro-model, trialling a combination of new and old ideas that could be replicated on a larger scale, and built the first of our ecologically sound houses.
Teaching Centre
In 2006, we opened our doors as a teaching centre for the first time, and have accommodated over 150 students since then as they learn with us by working on the varied projects we undertake and plan. We welcome members of the World Wide Opportunities on Farms group (WWOOFERS) as well as everyday people who want to be in touch with nature. Head to the Visit us pages to find out more!
