Ecological Living
At present all our attention has been on making the land as self sustaining as possible so that we can focus totally on projects that are in the pipeline for next year; such as the "Perpetual Garden" dome and sustainable energy schemes.
Of the foundations' 150 acres,70 acres have now been planted with a variety of trees, both to establish permanent conservation areas and to provide materials for the future, as part of our forestry plan.
We have a shared vegetable garden, polytunnel, orchard, ponds, horses, horse arena, stables, workshop, a large timber drying barn, re-cycling storage area, and wormerys. The polytunnel, which was put in this spring, has been extremely sucessfull. Nearly two foot long cucumbers have been hunted down and, despite the lack of sunshine, the tomatoes are in delicious abundance.Unicorn polytunnel in July.
The methane bio–digester, flowforms and reed bed water treatment system have now been installed and are functioning very well.
Our current project is the construction of an "Earthship" style eco greenhouse which incorporates the safe recycling of car tyres and other materials, slowly but surely, the walls continue to rise.
