Visitors

Attracting more visitors

As you will see from looking around our website, we have big ideas, and big aims. As an educational charity, we are also keen to reach as many people as we can with our message and that means being able to host large groups of visitors - something we are currently unable to do.

With that in mind, we are planning to build more accommodation for our visitors. We want to be able to run more residential courses, more often, for larger groups and the only way to do that is to make sure everyone has somewhere comfortable to sleep at nights.

Timber frame housing

This means that we are stepping up our plans to build more accommodation. Of course, these buildings will be sustainable in their construction, using the timber frame techniques that we have already employed so successfully. The new houses will feature the latest ecological mod-cons, and will continue our theme of reuse, reduce and recycle
At present, we have two different types of accommodation in mind. The first is a visitors’ centre with shared laundry facilities and kitchen downstairs and individual "bedsits" for single people or couples and families on the second floor. There are also plans for a "housing cluster" overlooking our lovely pool with shared heating, plumbing, power generation as well as a shared "atrium/conservatory" for maximising solar gain in the houses. This will drastically reduce costs and increase our capacity to have places for long term visitors wanting to participate in the project.

Environmentally sound

Waste from the houses will be treated by our biodigester to cleanse the water and provide fertiliser and gas that can be used for cooking. The houses will be heated by technologies that will cause minimal impact on the environment, and the electricity required in the accommodation will come from renewable sources that do not damage the environment.

Educational charity

By increasing the number of people we can accommodate, we will be able to fulfil one of our main objectives as an educational charity - namely to have as many people attend our courses as possible and pass on what we have learned about sustainable living and permaculture.
